1. What made you choose abdominal wall surgery?

I cannot clearly say if I chose the abdominal wall or the abdominal wall chose me!!! I started working on the abdominal wall at the beginning of the implementation of the laparoscopic approach and I was passionate about the lack of existing scientific evidence, so I began to develop different research projects to analyze the outcomes of this new approach. Research on abdominal wall surgery made me passionate!!!

2. What are your ambitions and goals to serve the EHS Board?

I can’t really say that I have any personal ambitions!!! My only ambition is to try to improve the quality of what we do in this field of surgery. It is exciting to see that great things can be done from a strong society as the EHS is, and at the same time enjoy what you do sharing your experience with a great group of people who think in the same way, as it is de board of the EHS.

3. Where do you get your motivation and inspiration in life?

Daily life of a surgeon is exciting!!! Looking for solutions to improve the quality of your surgery and teaching what you have learned is the best way to motivate yourself. Surgery is a passion and if you live it like this, surgay becomes very inspiring to your daily life.

4. What are the biggest challenges in the abdominal wall surgery right now?

I would say the biggest challenge is to standardize the procedures and teach them and, on the other hand, to find the right indications for the different techniques that we have in the armamentarium. Finally, the main challenge of all of us is to reach our dream as abdominal wall surgeons. This dream would be to find a way to have prosthetic materials that will mimic a normal abdominal wall, not leaving behind any meshes and foreign body reactions

5. What is your hidden talent?

Enjoying what I do, learning from everyone and teaching what I know.
