EHS Board position from June 2025: Secretary of Guidelines

Dear EHS members,
We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the position of Secretary of Guidelines on the EHS Board of Directors, beginning June 2025. This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated and methodologically-minded EHS member to lead and coordinate the Society’s efforts in developing high-quality, evidence-based guidelines for hernia care.
The Secretary of Guidelines will play a key role in ensuring that EHS remains a trusted source of best practice and a driver of continuous improvement in abdominal wall surgery.
The role of the Secretary of Guidelines
As with all EHS Board roles, we are looking for someone with energy, collaboration skills, and a passion for advancing hernia care across Europe and beyond. The Secretary of Guidelines will lead the creation and updating of EHS guidelines in line with current best practice in methodology. The role involves close collaboration with Board colleagues, national chapters, working groups, and external partners.
Key responsibilities include:
Create and lead a dedicated EHS Guideline Committee
Identify new topics and clinical areas in need of guideline development
Select and invite members for future Guideline groups based on expertise (including librarians, epidemiologists, statisticians), while promoting inclusion of young members and ensuring diversity
Support the training of new guideline experts within EHS
Coordinate the update process of expired guidelines
Organise and facilitate guideline committee meetings
Collaborate closely with the Secretary for Publications and Social Media, and the National Chapters, to support the broad distribution and implementation of guidelines
Liaise with partner societies such as AHS and EAES, and collaborate with the Journal of Abdominal Wall Surgery (JAWS)
Develop an EHS plan for sustainable high quality Guidelines
