EHS Board position from June 2025: Secretary for Quality

Applications are open – Closing date 27 April 2025

Dear EHS members,

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the position of Secretary for Quality on the EHS Board of Directors, beginning June 2025. This is an important opportunity for a quality-driven and forward-thinking EHS member to play a leading role in improving the standards and safety of hernia care across Europe.

The role of the Secretary for Quality

Like all EHS Board positions, we are looking for someone with drive, teamwork skills, and a strong commitment to excellence in surgical practice. The Secretary for Quality will spearhead initiatives that define, monitor, and enhance the quality of hernia surgery, working closely with EHS members, national chapters, and international partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and coordinate quality improvement initiatives, including the development of classifications, position statements, definitions, and appropriateness criteria

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarking systems to evaluate and compare outcomes across practices and regions

  • Establish systems for continuous surveillance and monitoring, including mesh quality and surgical results

  • Develop and implement an EHS Quality Stamp to recognise high standards in hernia care

  • Promote patient safety, experience and satisfaction, with a focus on long-term outcomes and error prevention strategies

The Secretary for Quality will help ensure that EHS remains at the forefront of safe, effective, and evidence-based surgical care by setting ambitious, measurable goals and encouraging shared learning across the community.
