What’s your name and age?
Iea Rabeea Alabbasi, 35 years.

Where do you come from?
Iraq and United Kingdom.

How long have you been an EHS member?
3 years.

Describe a day at work as a surgeon in your country:
Start with normal ward rounds, consenting patient for surgery, depending if its open or robotic list , and then carry on as the days go, MDT and complex hernia clinics every Wednesday.

What is your favourite AWR procedure/hernia surgery?
Complex one, when everything scared and difficult, that include TAR , removal of previous meshes. Also Robotic TAR , lateral and subcostal incisional hernia.

What inspired you to become a hernia enthusiast/surgeon?
Working with abdominal wall surgeon at North Devon comprehensive hernia Center , very supportive , and enthusiastic.

Please, give a small tip or trick to share for this or any other hernia procedure?
Always keep hernia sac till the end.

Have you attended an EHS congress, meeting, or course?
Yes. I have attended all EHS conferences in person after covid lockdown.

Did it make a big impression on you?
Yes. Very impressing, diverse, and bring people from around the world together, sharing new ideas, and experience, won’t miss attending it ever.

What made it great?
Different topic, covering wide variety of region and complexity.

How can the EHS help you in the future?
I will continue to be member of the EHS society, and hopefully present more from our Centre, bring more diversity to the society.

What is your dream for the future of hernia surgery?
My dream is to arrange a hernia society in Iraq in the future, though i’m not working there at the moment, once I build more experience and more skills, with all the support I have from EHS.
